Reviews proposed development designs, manage drainage improvement projects, designs drainage structures, inspects flood protection systems and responds to drainage concerns from the public and other County departments. Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.
Reviews construction plans, plats and assists in the review of drainage studies to ensure compliance with County regulations. Recommends minimum slab elevations to County Engineering Department as part of the review process. Performs engineering calculations and design drainage structures for County departments and the public. Reviews designs by other registered professional engineers. Investigates and responds to drainage concerns of the public and other government entities. Provides general oversite of levees within Fort Bend County. Inspects flood protection systems, helps provide training activities and assists in emergency operations preparedness for levee representatives. Manages budget expenditures for drainage improvement projects. Reviews and approves payment for private engineers, contractors, consultants, and FBCDD field crew use of available funds. Oversees Drainage District construction projects constructed by Drainage District crews or by private contractors. Assists in the evaluation of drainage standards/regulations and the use of Drainage District resources. Attends public meetings about drainage related issues in various communities. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field. Seven years of job related experience. Licensed Professional Engineer. Good computer and mathematical skills. Good verbal and written communication and organizational skills. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees and elected officials. Ability to read and understand construction plans, topography and geological surface forms, and recognize soil classification. Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner. Ability to understand civil engineering and floodplain terminology.
SALARY RANGE: Professional/Management Grade 14, $2,872.00 – $3,378.40 biweekly based on qualifications
