- The City of Sugar Land is seeking a full-time Data Engineer in the Information Technology Department. Why Should You Join Our Team? We pay our Data Engineers a starting salary of $64,979 – $82,493, depending on your qualifications. - Summary of Duties
- As a Data Engineer, you will:
- Create datasets for the organization that can be used for analysis, modeling, and performance management
- Interpret data using statistical techniques, and provide reports, dashboards, and visualizations for insight
- Develop and implement strategies that optimize data access, usage and insight.
- Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex datasets for business purpose.
- Develop and create business reports using Power BI, Crystal Report, and SSRS.
- Establish data management methodologies to ensure completeness, cleanliness, and consistency across the entire data lifecycle.
- Work with management to prioritize business and information needs and identify areas where data related analysis can lead to improvements.
- Work with multiple datasets to analyze correlations that can be used to drive inter-process efficiencies.
- Identify areas for data quality improvements and help to resolve data quality issues through process control/improvement and error detection/correction.
- Assist in training and/or coaching of City staff on data analysis best practices and the tools and resources available to leverage those practices.
- Required to work as an essential employee before, during and after an emergency or disaster, whether natural or acts of war.
- Stay abreast of, and comply with, all City and departmental policies and procedures. ?
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Director and/or their designee(s).
- Minimum Qualifications
- The ideal candidate must be able to work independently on assignments and requests. In addition, strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment is critical for success in the role, as are high levels of accuracy, timeliness and dependability. We are looking for someone who can establish and maintain effective working relationships within the organization, work effectively with all levels of employees and management, and assist in providing solutions to challenges that arise.
You are professional and proficient in data analytics. Diligent, take initiative and follow through and follow up with projects. You take pride in delivering excellent customer service while balancing complex data sets. You work well as part of a team but are not afraid to make tough decisions. If this describes you and you meet the following requirements, we would be happy to speak with you:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Statistics, or other STEM fields from an accredited school or university.
- Master’s degree preferred.
An advanced degree or additional relevant work experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted in lieu of specific education or exempt-level experience requirements.
- A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in business intelligence and analytics.
- Municipal experience is preferred.
Training (License and/or Certification):
- Valid Class “C” Texas Driver License
- Data Analytics Certification preferred
