Summary:

Energy Transfer is looking for an experienced Leak Detection specialist to assist with the maintenance and expansion of its Computational Pipeline Monitoring (CPM) system. Responsibilities of the position will include, but not limited to, the utilization of third-party software applications that uses a statistical or compensated volume balance, to model the system and provide leak detection, rupture, batch tracking, and hydraulics analysis of liquids pipelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Configure, tune, and maintain statistical and/or compensated volume balance leak detection system for liquid pipelines
  • Installation and configuration of data transfer services  (OPC, SQL and others) linking field measurements and pipeline models
  • Provide support for troubleshooting and maintenance of the LD system and its interfaces to other applications, particularly the SCADA system.
  • Work with other company departments to gather information, configure and maintain pipeline models in CPM software
  • Work with Pipeline Operations, Field Operations, Engineering, and SCADA to review and adjust configurations and displays to tune and trouble-shoot real-time operation of the system for accurate pipeline monitoring
  • Assist SCADA Integration and scripts development, this includes building the SCADA objects required by the LDS
  • Provide end user training on the use of the leak detection system
  • Manage and coordinate alarm management and testing to comply with API 1130 and API 1175
  • Support the overall Leak Detection Program (LDP)
  • Be available for rotational on-call 24/7 application support or as needed
  • Support simulation RTTM models of natural gas pipelines
  • Other duties as required

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Technical Degree with relevant work experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in pipeline leak detection modeling, SCADA and/or pipeline hydraulics/control
  • Clear understanding of the hydraulics involved in liquid and gas flow in pipelines.
  • Familiarity with data management and analysis on standard platforms like Excel
  • Microsoft Server Administration and MS Office Suite skills.
  • Good communication skills both oral and written
  • Willing to take on new challenges and to multi-task
  • Attend conferences and workshops concerning leak detection and SCADA

 

Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:

  • The Specialist/Analyst level requires a Bachelor’s degree and 2-5 years of relevant job related experience
  • The Senior Specialist/Analyst level requires a Bachelor’s degree and 5-8 years of relevant job related experience
  • The Lead Specialist/Analyst level requires a Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of relevant job related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

The following skills would be considered as a plus.

  • Advanced Data Management/Data Analytics
  • Experience with Atmos statistical and compensated volume balance LD models
  • Experience with Real Time Transient Modeling (RTTM) software applications
  • Experience with Energy Solutions Pipeline Manager (PMAT)
  • Experience with off-line hydraulic simulators, such as PipelineStudio or SPS
  • Advanced knowledge in NGL, Refined Products, and Crude Oil pipeline hydraulics
  • Experience in Software development lifecycles (SDLC)
  • Experience in programming languages such as Python, Visual Studio, C#, VB Script, SQL Server queries, PowerShell
  • Experience in SCADA software such as CygNet and OASyS/DNA   
  • Familiarity with PHMSA Control Room Management (CRM) guidelines
  • ITIL Foundation certification

Working Conditions:


The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Usually, normal office working conditions.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
