We have an exciting opportunity for an Electro-Mech Technician II join our team with the Operations & Test Division.

This is a JETS II CBA position with Jacobs.

The Electro-Mech Technician II will:

  • Performs various duties in the design, assembly, installation, testing, calibration, operation, evaluation, modification, and repair of devices used in the conversion of electrical signals to mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic outputs and the sensors which convert mechanical, thermal and pressure measurements to electrical signals where primary methods, procedures, and standards have been determined.
  • Design, assemble, install, test, calibrate, operate, evaluate, modify, and repair devices used in the conversion of electrical signals to and from mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic systems.  Requires knowledge of laboratory techniques, methods, and equipment.
  • Perform maintenance and operation of electrical, hydraulic, thermal, pneumatic, and other types of mechanical equipment in assigned laboratories or work areas, including researching, documenting, acquiring parts, repairing, and calibration electro-mechanical devices and systems.
  • Assists in the development of methods, procedures, and laboratory equipment required to fulfill assignments and achieve prescribed objectives.
  • Assists in troubleshooting and investigative services for malfunctioning or failed pneumatic, hydraulic, thermal or other electromechanical measuring devices, counting devices, servo systems or equipment employing energy conversion; repairs and calibrates such equipment in accordance with applicable equipment manuals and check out procedures.
  • Installs, checks out and operates equipment in assigned laboratory or work area and provides preventative maintenance including routine and special purging and cleaning when a system, equipment or device requires it.
  • Assists in preparation of test and/or operational procedures, selection, and set—up test equipment; participates in scheduled and unscheduled operations by operating on-line equipment, making necessary adjustments and alignments, monitoring meters, gauges, etc., and recording data.
  • Operate and preform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of equipment and systems.
  • Perform periodic readings and monitoring of various facility systems from variety of sources; gauges, sensors, hand held devices, telemetry data to distributive control systems, etc. and record data in written and/or electronic format in hand-held portable and/or desktop computer systems.
  • Receives technical advice from higher technicians, lead technician supervisor or engineers.
  • May be assisted by lower level technicians who have frequent contact with professional and others within the work area.
  • Adheres to written or standardized operating procedures, policies, and protocols for use of lab equipment and to conduct all other operation, maintenance, calibration, and safety related activities as defined for specific work area.
  • Perform assigned task in a safe manner and maintain a clean working environment by complying with all safety procedures and company policies.
  • Assemble, operate, and disassemble test equipment and properly dispose of components as defined by procedures.
  • Work in a team environment.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Required Skills:

  • Able to read and interpret basic technical drawings and schematics.
  • Knowledge of the process of assembling and installing mechanical and electrical components.
  • Trouble-shooting and problem solving capability.
  • High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years of experience in related field.
  • Requires knowledge of laboratory techniques, methods, and equipment.
  • Must be a non-smoker to meet Class 10 Cleanroom requirements (Science Department only).
  • Knowledge of cryogenics and high-pressure systems.
  • Able to comprehend basic technical terminology and communicate effectively with other employees and team members.
  • Able to visualize and solve practical problems.
  • Able to operate and handle basic hand-held and/or power tools.

Preferences:

  • Work experience with metals, composites, and materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, copper, and Teflon.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
  • Familiar with cleanroom protocols and contamination control.
  • Experience with machining tools (e.g., lathe, mill, bandsaw, etc.).
  • Knowledge and/or familiarity with Ultra-Pure Water (UPW) and reverse osmosis systems.
  • Two year technical degree.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Physical Requirements:

Requires constant:

  • Climbing and maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level.
  • Reaching for, handling, and manipulating objects and materials in all directions.
  • Coordinating eyes, hands, and fingers to operate tools and equipment.
  • Seeing and hearing with or without correction.
  • Crawling and kneeling from 1 to 30 minutes at a time.

Requires Frequent:

  • Standing.
  • Lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Carrying up to 40 pounds for 20 yards from ground level, from waist level and overhead (occasional).
  • Bending and crouching/squatting at waist from 1 to 30 minutes at a time.

Requires the ability to:

  • Follow set procedures and standards.
  • Apply basic mathematical skills.
  • Plan and work selecting proper tools.
  • Compare and understand differences in the size, shape, and form or lines, figures, and objects.
  • Follow written and oral directions, plans and blueprints.
  • Picture and evaluate solid objects from drawings or diagrams using standards that can be measured or checked.
  • Recognize and report safety hazards.

Work Environment:

Typically a lab or warehouse, or a cleanroom environment with exposure to extreme hot or cold weather, excessive humidity, rain, etc., work performed at low and/or high elevations. Exposure to various noise levels caused by power tools, machinery, equipment, etc.

Equipment and Machines: 

Operate hand-held tools such as drills, power saws, calipers, torque-wrenches, crimping tools, screw-drivers, pliers, etc.  Operate basic laboratory instruments such as oscilloscopes, volt meters, gauges, and pressure sensors, etc.  Operates personal computer and related computer peripheral equipment to maintain and update database logs and/or records and print documents.  Ability to use Microsoft Office and Windows Operating System.  Ability to use two-way radio.

Attendance:  

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.  Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.

Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.  Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.  Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
